The article, “States, cities sue over climate rule rollback” (Star-Advertiser, Aug. 14), highlights the dangers of having executive orders define climate- change policy.
Addressing climate change needs a law that has the best chance of no rollback and no court challenges. To ensure permanence in reducing carbon emissions, we need an effective national policy that garners bipartisan support.
Placing a fee on carbon emissions and returning 100% of revenues generated to citizens is one such policy. More than 3,500 economists of all political stripes signed a letter endorsing it. A Republican and five Democrats introduced such a bill, HR 763, in the U.S. House of Representatives. It’s imperative that Congress takes action on this bill immediately.
