I believe that the Thirty Meter Telescope supporters need to heighten public awareness by advertising the benefits of the project. Since some ambitious politicians and entertainment celebrities have already advertised opposition to the telescope, there needs to be a counter-balance. Infomercials should be broadcast locally as well as on the mainland.
Also, these protesters challenge the very core of our judicial system by ignoring a Hawaii Supreme Court ruling.
It seems ironic that Hawaiian scientists would speak out against the project. Hawaii could be the world leader in astronomy, with potential discoveries about the nature of the universe.
