The Central East Maui (Wailuku) Little League baseball team continued on in the West Regional on Monday with a 6-5 walk-off victory over Arizona in San Bernardino, Calif.
Bransyn Hong hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, bringing home the game-winning run.
Hong also gave Maui the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after trailing by two when he hit a bases-clearing double.
Maui moves on to face Northern California in the West Regional semifinal for ages 11-12 on Thursday at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
UH hoops to play San Francisco this season
San Francisco of the West Coast Conference will play Hawaii in men’s basketball at the Stan Sheriff Center on Nov. 29, the Dons announced in releasing their full nonconference schedule on Monday.
USF, 21-10 last season, finished fourth in the WCC and had a KenPom.com rating of 67 among 353 Division I teams. The Dons have a new coach in Todd Golden this season after Kyle Smith took the head job at Washington State.
UH has yet to release its 2019-20 schedule. Other known UH nonconference games in the coming season are New Orleans on Nov. 25, as reported by the Twitter scheduling aggregator @TheD1Docket, and Maine on Dec. 29, via the Black Bears’ full schedule release. In addition, the Rainbow Warriors will open the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic against old WAC foe UTEP on Dec. 22, in a recent opening-round switch from Ball State.
