On Page A5: “Opponents … including major hoteliers … also argued that vacation rentals take away visitors from traditional hotel accommodations” (“Caldwell warns of crackdowns on illegal vacation rentals,” Star-Advertiser, July 26).
On Page B4: “Hawaii hotels top nation in room rate” at $280 (Star-Advertiser, July 26).
I guess you can have it both ways — if you own a hotel.
Vacation rentals have won the war in cities and the hearts and minds of tourists all over the world. But Honolulu keeps having these dumb battles.
How did the hotel guys and the labor unions frighten the City Council and mayor into trying to stop the ocean with a teaspoon?
