The recent issuance of a liquor license for a Chinatown liquor store is indicative of the contempt and disregard for the community and public by the Liquor Commission.
Despite testimony against licensure by community leaders, the police citing increased crime and violence in the vicinity, and the mayor himself, the all-powerful commission issued the license.
In the old days, Chinatown was safe to walk at midnight. These days, anyone walking about after 3 p.m. is at risk for theft, attack, injury or worse. Whenever tourists are seen walking about Chinatown after 3 p.m., I fear for their safety.
