I am a Native Hawaiian, born and raised on the slopes of Mauna Kea. My piko is buried there and my ashes will go there in short enough time.
I believe that Mauna Kea had a significant, positive impact upon the first Polynesians who sighted it as they approached these shores; they, who became the first Hawaiians. I believe that Mauna Kea has had a significant, positive impact upon our lives; as it also has protected us from the worst of the passing storms that have threatened us. And I believe that, in the desire to install the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea, it is being honored and given an opportunity to have a significant impact upon mankind.
I hope we will not deny our beloved Mauna Kea that honor and opportunity.
