Jim Wolery displayed some mental contortions (“Hirono would encourage dangerous migration,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, July 15).
I had difficulty following him on his critique of U.S. Sen. Hirono, who was upset about our president separating children from their parents and putting them into cages.
That is about the most inhumane thing anyone can do. I’m sure Wolery would write very nasty letters if someone did that to his children. Very nasty.
He is either oblivious or in denial — or both — of the fact that here the majority is either the first, second or third generation of immigrants. And we have been living together quite peacefully, possibly to the envy of many people.
He might also look at the Statue of Liberty. It says: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.”
