About 15 volunteers from the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 1, of Hawaii helped restore most of the 27 vandalized gravestones at the Kawaiahao Church cemetery. Mel Silva, a business manager for Local 1, said he heard about the incident on the news soon after it happened on July 3, and he called Brickwood Galuteria, chairman of the Kawaiahao Church Board, to offer his services.
