STAR-ADVERTISER ARCHIVE / JULY 29, 1960
Ronald Wong shows off a 70-pound watermelon grown by his father, Gee Chong Wong, on their
Waimanalo farm to enter in the 14th Windward Fair. The elder Wong chose one vine and allowed only
two fruit to develop on it to bring about the massive melon, and said he likes his prospects for top honors
with the white-seeded Watson variety fruit. He’s already looking ahead to the next crop, with the ambition
of nurturing a 100-pounder.
