MANGO DELIGHTS
Mango season brings mango restaurant specials:
>> At Taormina Sicilian Cuisine, chef Hiroyuki Mimura’s annual Mango ‘Sognare’ menu — named for an Italian dream or “sognare,” features Haden mangoes and runs only as long as this year’s bounty lasts.
Dishes are the Oyster Mignonette ($24) of four raw Fanny Bay oysters, topped with a mango sauce; Carpaccio di Polpo ($22), Spanish octopus topped with mangoes and chili pepper vinaigrette; and Cheesecake Espuma ($16), cheesecake custard with fresh mangoes.
Taormina Sicilian Cuisine is at 227 Lewers St. Call 926-5050.
>> At the Moana Surfrider, a three-course mango tasting menu runs through July. The dishes: grilled Kauai prawns with green mango salad, porchetta with mango chutney, and Mango Vanilla Verrine, a sponge cake with almond crumble and mango compote.
Cost is $65; $80 with wine pairings. Call 921-4600.
Also at the Moana are mango-inspired items at the Veranda (think the Mangosada malasada), the oceanfront Beach Bar and the Surfrider Cafe.

PIE PROJECT A BOON FOR GIRL SCOUTS
An ice cream pie inspired by a Girl Scout Cookie has earned a $2,624 donation for the Girls Scouts of Hawai‘i.
Duke’s Waikiki put the Do-si-do Hula Pie on the menu during cookie-selling season, collecting $2 from every slice sold for the Girl Scouts. The pie was a Do-si-do (peanut butter) version of the restaurant’s signature Hula Pie, made with cookies purchased from Girl Scout Troop 170.
