Regarding the new law prohibiting entering a crosswalk once the countdown timer starts (“Crosswalk law cracks down on late starters,” Star-Advertiser, July 1):
I appreciate the efforts to reduce pedestrian fatalities, but this goes way too far. This is a solution in search of a problem.
Just how many pedestrians who have stepped off the curb after the timer starts have been struck in a crosswalk? This is the problem with government run amok.
The Democratic Party-run government spends our tax money coming up with useless laws that take away people’s freedoms to choose how to live their lives.
There are surely many young people who are able to quickly make it across before the timer expires.
Now some older folks might not, but should it not be up to each individual to realize his or her capabilities and make an individual choice?
I have an idea for the next inane law. Let’s prohibit any person from crossing a street at any time unless there is a police officer who will hand-guide them across.
Let’s hold hands, children!
