Families can get on their feet — and paws — for a good cause at the West Oahu Pet Walk, Saturday at Kapolei Regional Park. The 1-mile lighted night walk for pets and people is a benefit for nonprofit organization Poi Dogs & Popoki.

“The pet walk helps PDP raise money for veterinarian care, spay/neuter services, and other health and wellness services for low-income families,” said Alicia Maluafiti, Poi Dogs & Popoki volunteer board president. PDP’s services benefit animals that would traditionally be euthanized.

Registration includes a lighted LED dog collar, making for an illuminated stroll through the park. Along the walk route, participants can visit stations with pupu for people and goodies — such as a scoop bowl, tennis ball and teeth treats — for pups. The event will also include an off-leash play area for dogs, photo booth and “Ask A Vet” booth.

“Not only is the event fun for pets and pet owners, but the monies raised help save lives,” Maluafiti said.
