Letter: Ambulance service too expensive

JAMM AQUINO / 2006

An ambulance rushes towards Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

While I don’t have the answer to Hawaii’s homeless issue, I’ve found the recent series on the Chinatown homeless enlightening and optimistic. However, I was shocked at the potential cost of an ambulance ride and doctor examination (“Will relocating River of Life help ease homeless complaints in Chinatown? Opens in a new tab,” Star-Advertiser, May 19).

$1,250? For what? Are they using nuclear fission to power their vehicles?

This is just one more example of the medical field inflating prices for simple procedures that a taxi, Uber or Lyft driver could provide for less than one-tenth the price. Where does it end? How did we lose control of something so basic and essential? How do we stop this insanity? It’s already out of control.
