Go on a backstage tour to see the set of Hawaii Opera Theatre’s season-closing “La Traviata.” Try on opera costumes — maybe a pirate, viking or geisha? — and take family photos. Watch performances by members of HOT’s Orvis Opera Studio. These are just a few of the fun activities at HOT Family Day at the Opera, Saturday at Blaisdell Concert Hall.
“Opera has history dating back to the Hawaiian Kingdom,” said Hawaii Opera Theatre marketing director Jason Walter.
The art form has lived for many years in its original form, modern takes and as the soundtrack to some of the most memorable cartoons, commercials and movies we love, Walter said.
“This is an ‘opera-tunity’ to experience elements of it for free,” he quipped.
HOT Family Day at the Opera also includes a chance to play with props, control a lightboard, and see wigs and makeup from “La Traviata.”
HOT’s production of Verdi’s “La Traviata,” starring Pene Pati and Quinn Kelsey, will be May 17, 19 and 21 at Blaisdell Concert Hall.
