First off, let me say my heart goes out to all the victims of last year’s natural disaster on Kauai. I’ve lived through some myself and know what they’re contending with.
But some of these folks’ justification and tactics to become an elitist closed community leave a lot to be desired.
Everyone who lives on or visits Kauai who pays federal, state and/or county taxes has the right to use these roadways as soon as they become available. We all funded, paid for and still pay for these roadways — residents and visitors alike.
Crying foul, that “we were lied to” and threatening to lie in the roadway to block traffic is just plain childish and dangerous. At least the Kauai folks have useable property to build back on, unlike a lot of the folks on the Big Island.
Traffic woes? Come live Oahu, bruddah. Try finding a useable uncrowded beach anywhere on this island for you and your family to enjoy.
Count your blessings, move on with your rebuilding and your life, and zip your lip.
