Farrington is closing in on breaking a long streak in Division I baseball.
Caleb Sherman homered, drove in three runs and picked up the win on the mound to lead the Governors to a 12-1 victory over Waianae in five innings on Wednesday in the opening round of the OIA baseball playoffs at Joey DeSa Field.
Ehu Sanchez and Reese Shoji both drove in two runs for the Governors (8-5), who are one win away from clinching a berth in the Division I state tournament for the first time since 1963.
After moving up from Division II following back-to-back state appearances, the Govs can secure a berth with a win over Campbell today at 3 p.m.
A loss and the Govs could still make the tournament by finishing fifth in the OIA tournament or sixth and then win the play-in game against the BIIF.
