Families can embark on an undersea adventure and discover secrets of the “rainforests of the sea” in a new planetarium show, “Expedition Reef,” premiering Saturday at Hokulani Imaginarium.

Narrated by Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, the full-dome planetarium show provides an up-close look at the world’s most vibrant and endangered marine ecosystems. “Expedition Reef” discusses the three type of reef systems, the way reef systems develop, what harms them and how they can be sustained, said Dineene O’Connor, Hokulani Imaginarium manager.

“In Hawaii, we have an intimate understanding of the importance of the oceans and the role we play in the sustainability of these most precious ecosystems,” O’Connor said. “This film sets the stage for conversations that families can have with each other and prepare their children for similar discussions they will have in classrooms.”
