Hawaii man charged in fatal Ohio crash
RAVENNA, Ohio >> Authorities say a passenger inside an SUV driven by a Hawaii man who fled a traffic stop and then crashed has died in northeast Ohio.
The State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred just after midnight in Portage County’s Ravenna Township. The passenger has been identified as 22-year-old Brianna Lewandowski of Springfield Township.
Patrol officials say a state trooper stopped the SUV just before midnight Friday for a registration violation. The driver, 27-year-old Joshua Kalili, of Captain Cook, allegedly assaulted the trooper and a police officer called to assist after being removed from a cruiser for “moving suspiciously.”
The patrol says Kalili drove off despite being shocked with a stun gun.
Kalili has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. Court records don’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
