Call me selfish, call me a climate caveman, but after reading the article about electric vehicle chargers (“Legislators pushing for electric vehicle chargers,” Star-Advertiser, April 15), I was dumbfounded.
I understand the reason for purchasing an EV. What I don’t understand is why some EV owners feel others need to help them recharge their vehicle.
The Building Industry Association of Hawaii and the Retail Merchants of Hawaii oppose a bill to require new buildings to be EV charger ready, because of building challenges and financial burdens. I assume the additional costs would be passed on to consumers one way or another.
Just my humble opinion, but if you purchase an EV, you have the responsibility for recharging your vehicle — not the city, not the state, not the shopping mall, not me, taxpayer. Or maybe, with the money you are saving charging your EV on everyone else’s dime, you can send me a couple of bucks, so I can fill up my caveman fossil fuel vehicle. Just saying.
