KEALAKEKUA >> A Big Isle man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in a shooting last June that killed one man and injured another.
West Hawaii Today reported that a jury on Thursday returned a guilty verdict for 50-year-old Brian Lee Smith of Honaunau for killing Thomas Ballesteros Jr.
Smith also was found guilty of first-degree reckless endangerment for injuring Nikolaus Slavik, two counts of prohibited ownership or possession of a firearm and two counts of carrying or use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.
He will face life in prison with the possibility of parole at his June 26 sentencing.
