FMS Hawaii Inc., a tax preparation service, pleaded no contest Thursday in Oahu Circuit Court to four counts of failure to collect and pay tax, while corporate officer Teodora Villafuerte pleaded guilty to four counts of willful failure to file return or supply information.
The Department of Taxation announced the pleas Friday. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 14.
FMS was charged Feb. 13 with four counts of willful failure to pay withholding taxes for tax years 2011 to 2014 and will face a maximum fine of $500,000 per count at sentencing.
Villafuerte was charged Feb. 15 with willful failure to file withholding tax returns for tax years 2011 to 2014. She faces imprisonment of not more than a year or probation and a maximum fine of $25,000 per count.
Villafuerte and FMS Hawaii also paid $20,000 to the Hawaii Crime Victim Compensation Fund.
