The love between a parent and child, as well as the lessons about truths and lies, make for ideal themes for families to explore together in “The Adventures of Pinocchio,” a musical production opening Friday at Tenney Theatre and closing out Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s 64th season.
“My hope is that much like Pinocchio, our young folks will be inspired to question, look closer and seek truth,” said director Nathaniel Niemi. “Pinocchio’s choices provide a beautiful example of how our actions affect those we love most.”
The new rendition of the classic story by Carlo Collodi is filled with adventure and humor, and features original folk music, dancing puppets and exciting visuals, including a nose that “grows” more than a yard when Pinocchio tells a lie.
“Much like Pinocchio becoming a ‘real’ boy through the decisions he makes on his journey, the good and the bad, we too are refined and changed by the choices we make in life,” Niemi added. “This is a perfect show for the whole family to enjoy together.”
