Prosecutors charged a 30-year-old man in connection with a purse snatching in Waikiki.

Skylar I. Hubbard was charged Tuesday with second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $11,000.

Police said a 21-year-old woman was walking with a friend on the sidewalk on Kalia Road near the intersection of Paoa Place at about 12:55 a.m. Sunday when a male suspect later identified as Hubbard allegedly wielded a three-to-four-inch folding-type knife and grabbed the victim’s purse.

The victim’s friend, also 21, attempted to intervene but he allegedly punched her in the face, according to court documents.

Police said Hubbard fled on foot but a Good Samaritan chased and tackled him. The Good Samaritan recovered the purse that was returned to the victim.

Hubbard then ran off again.

Police located him at about 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Royal Hawaiian Avenue and Lauula Street. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault.

The women were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries. One victim sustained lacerations to her right hand when her purse chain strap snagged her at the time Hubbard allegedly pulled her purse away from her. The other victim suffered a contusion to her forehead.
