Sunday is a day of rest (no basketball), but there was plenty to do.
First there was Fanfest. Thousands crowded into the Convention Center to play interactive games, meet and greet coaches and former players, such as Roy Williams and Grant Hill, and enter a wing eating contest. And if that’s not enough, you can always join the cheerleading clinic.
If it’s music you want, Sunday you could have seen Katy Perry and Zedd (who?) in concert. Also in concert this weekend were the Jonas Brothers (so happy they got back together) and the Chainsmokers (I used to know lot of them). But what, no Motown?
Interesting factoid: The media have access to in-Stadium internet. Guess what the access code is. A hint. Prince was from Minneapolis. Ready for this. Purplerain1999. If you are a Prince fan you get it.
Sunday was always a chance to sample some of Minneapolis’ best restaurants. I did just that. Fabulous dinner, after lunch with UH athletic director David Matlin. Lots of volleyball talk. What a season they’ve had.
As if I am not getting enough basketball, I went to the Timberwolves-Oklahoma City game. OKC fighting to maintain a playoff spot. Timberwolves toast. Good game. OKC had a great fourth quarter and won by six. No shock, Another triple double for Russell Westbrook. Paul George was dominating as was Karl-Anthony Towns for the Timberwolves. During opponents free throw attempts, they put the howl-a-meter on the screen and fans make sounds like wolves. Something for UH to think about. Maybe shark noises?
Well, today is the big game. One of the lowest total points in history is predicted. The over-under is historically low. In my view, 60 points could well win it. Tech’s defense is incredible, but I have to think this is Virginia’s year. Think about it. Last year, the Cavaliers were the first No. 1 seed to lose to a 16. I feel redemption in the air.
