Fire inspectors consider the home a total loss and estimated damages to the structure and its contents to be roughly $650,000.

A family has been displaced after a fire on Tuesday destroyed their home in Omao, Kauai.

Fire officials said the family was not at home during the fire and no injuries were reported.

Kaumualii Highway, from Omao Road to Koloa Road, was temporarily closed as firefighters responded to the two-story house fire.

Kalaheo firefighters were dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. and were later joined by crews from the Kalaheo, Hanapepe and Lihue stations. In total, nine units staffed with 22 personnel responded to the scene.

The fire was deemed under control at approximately 3:50 p.m. and fully extinguished at 6:30 p.m., fire officials said.

The home, which did not appear to have fire sprinklers, is considered a total loss, with estimated damages to the structure and its contents to be roughly $650,000.

The fire remains under investigation, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
