The editorial, “DOE should run public preschools” (Star-Advertiser, Our View, March 10), followed by the reasons for doing so made me think.
I would agree wholeheartedly if our public schools were doing a decent job currently. From my memory alone, I can recall a serious shortage of qualified teachers, restrooms in deplorable conditions, playground equipment unused due to the extensive damage and need for replacement.
How does the state Department of Education even warrant consideration for such an important endeavor?
