The editorial, “DOE should run public preschools” (Star-Advertiser, Our View, March Opens in a new tab10) Opens in a new tab, followed by the reasons for doing so made me think.
I would agree wholeheartedly if our public schools were doing a decent job currently. From my memory alone, I can recall a serious shortage of qualified teachers, restrooms in deplorable conditions, playground equipment unused due to the extensive damage and need for replacement.
How does the state Department of Education even warrant consideration for such an important endeavor?
