While waiting for your food at Olena by Chef Ron Simon, you can’t miss the temptation of chocolate-dipped strawberries on display at neighboring Dipped by Dee.
Daniela Fry started making her confections as a hobby about five years ago while living in Albuquerque, N.M., but only got serious about turning it into a full-time business after moving to Hawaii, where patrons’ time and work pressures, and the omiyage tradition, make convenience a factor in her success.
“To tell you the truth, this business would not have worked in Albuquerque,” she said.
Beyond white-, milk- and dark-chocolate strawberries bearing her signature fine drizzle, the company is known for special-occasion packaging for arrangements of dipped strawberries and flowers, or custom strawberries dipped in favorite colors, school or theme colors with special messaging.
For Valentine’s Day, “I Love You” and “XOXO” boxes of 12 strawberries were selling for $60. Mother’s Day is coming up. Orders can be taken by stopping by at 1933 Republican St. — where she is headquartered through the end of March — or via direct message through Instagram @dippedby_dee.
