Katherine Kealoha cites cancer treatment to seek trial delay
Former deputy prosecutor Katherine Kealoha is asking for a postponement in the start date of her trial this month so she can receive immediate treatment for cancer, according to a motion her lawyer filed today in federal court.
The motion does not say what kind of cancer Kealoha has or what treatment is necessary. An exhibit related to Kealoha’s condition and filed with the motion was sealed.
It is not unusual for documents disclosing personal health information to be kept confidential in court records.
Kealoha, her husband, former police Chief Louis Kealoha, and several former members of the Honolulu Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit are scheduled to be tried on March 18 for allegedly taking part in a scheme to frame Katherine Kealoha’s uncle with stealing a mailbox, then lying about it to federal investigators to cover up their actions.
