The Hawaii “Born Alive Infant Protection Act” (House Bill 1184) quietly died on Feb. 7 in Room 329 at the Hawaii State Capitol Building. Actually, despite the “bravery” of Health Committee Chairman John Mizuno, who was permitted by the Democratic Party leadership to hold a hearing, the bill was D.O.A. from the onset.
Yes, the committee members dutifully listened to the impassioned pleas of those who spoke in favor of the sanctity of life for a baby born alive after a botched abortion. But alas, we were told there weren’t enough votes on the committee for the bill to live another day.
What does this hold for future viable babies who might live through botched abortions? Well, it means that without medical intervention, the poor little infant will die a quiet, unremarkable death like that of HB 1184.
