Straub Medical Center has received a $4 million donation for its heart program from the Clarence T. C. Ching Foundation.
The donation — the largest ever for the hospital — will help fund a major renovation and expansion of Straub’s Heart Center, which is building high-tech surgical suites to conduct minimally invasive heart valve procedures for those who do not qualify for open heart surgeries.
The 159-bed hospital began its minimally invasive heart procedures six months ago and is ramping up the program and investing in the latest technology suites.
The late Clarence T. C. Ching of Kauai was a developer, realtor, banker, affordable housing pioneer and philanthropist who developed the areas around Honolulu Airport, Salt Lake, Moanalua, Fort Shafter and Tripler.
