Honolulu firefighters rescue kayakers in distress off Mokulua
Honolulu firefighters responded to a call for kayakers in distress near the Mokulua islets off of Lanikai on Monday evening.
At 5:41 p.m. Monday, the Honolulu Fire Department responded to the scene with 24 personnel. Two adult male kayakers were separated from their kayak and needed assistance. A good Samaritan had paddled out to keep them safe while they waited for help.
Firefighters paddled out and secured both males on a rescue board, while a helicopter provided aerial support from above. The two men were then picked up by HFD jet skis, transported to shore and transferred to the care of Emergency Medical Services.
The two men, who were visitors, suffered from cuts and cold, according to EMS. They were transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
