Hooray for Lee Cataluna. She pointed out how we the people are losing out to the hard-core homeless (“Still no plan for helping homeless who don’t want help,” Star-Advertiser, Jan. 30).
Why do we have to close Iolani Palace early and possibly lose the Children’s Discovery Center in Kakaako due to bad behavior by a few intransigent homeless?
This jeopardizes efforts to help the truly needy homeless, which include families, working people and folks with health problems. Clearly, we should not tolerate those who refuse help and who continue to camp on the sidewalks, stealing bicycles and trashing public parks.
Instead of pushing back, we are retreating from it. When will we stand up and stop excusing this shameless behavior?
