I am a recreational boat owner who uses the Hawaii Kai public boat ramp facility.
Every year I am charged with a boat registration fee, boat trailer registration fee, trailer safety inspection fee, boat ramp fee, Coast Guard boating safety inspection, license to operate a motor vessel — six permits or licenses I must have just to launch my boat.
Now, if we add the truck registration, safety inspection and license I need to have up-to-date to drive my trailer and boat to the ramp, we have a total of nine permits, licenses or certificates to go fishing — and the boat ramp and dock at Hawaii Kai is broken.
We can’t use it.
What is wrong with this picture?
The state needs to do the job that I’m paying through the nose for.
