The Star-Advertiser reported last week on Frank Lyon pleading guilty to paying at least $240,000 in bribes to a state agency official in order to obtain a $2.5 million engineering contract (“Honolulu contractor admits to bribery,” Star-Advertiser, Jan. 23).
Except for a weak editorial that called for the obvious need for “further investigations” (“Reveal more about state briberies,” Star-Advertiser, Our View, Jan. 26), you have shown no interest in probing further into the name of the official, the names of the other state agency officials with whom the bribe was shared, or any additional details about Hawaii’s entrenched criminal pay-to-play government system.
Why doesn’t the Star-Advertiser probe these important issues with the same zeal you had in your recent front-page “exposé” of the guy who was trying to make a few bucks by renting out his van for lodging (“Hippie Bus Hawaii rentals include ocean views and maybe a visit from police,” Star-Advertiser, Jan. 20)?
Your silence is deafening.
