ILH champion ‘Iolani, which has reigned as the No. 1 team in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 for 10 consecutive weeks, is the top seed in the Snapple/HHSAA Girls Basketball State Championships.
Brackets were released Wednesday with BIIF champion Waiakea seeded No. 2 after ending four-time defending state champion Konawaena’s run of league titles that extended for the past decade.
The Warriors will host the winner between OIA runner-up Kalani and Radford next Thursday while the Wildcats will host Leilehua in a first-round game on Monday at 4 p.m.
The Raiders are the No. 1 overall seed for the first time since 1989. ‘Iolani has been seeded five times since but never as the No. 1 overall seed.
Maui will host Kaiser in a first-round game on Monday after beating King Kekaulike, 63-38 Wednesday, to advance to its first state tournament since 2013.
In Division II play, which begins Wednesday, ILH champion Hawaii Baptist is the No. 1 overall seed, with MIL champion Seabury Hall earning the No. 2 seed ahead of OIA champion Castle (No. 3 seed) and BIIF champion Hawaii Prep (No. 4 seed).
Hawaii Prep top seed in boys soccer
Hawaii Prep drew the top seed in Division I in The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships. It’s the first time a school from outside Oahu has been awarded the top spot.
Ka Makani shared the title with Baldwin last year after a scoreless draw. The Bears are unseeded after losing the MIL to King Kekaulike and would meet Hawaii Prep for the rematch in the semifinals should both teams advance.
The MIL champions drew the second seed with ILH champion Punahou slotted third and OIA champion Kapolei getting the fourth seed.
The tournament kicks off on Monday, with Kaiser at Iolani, Pearl City visiting Baldwin at War Memorial Stadium, Mililani hosting Campbell and Kalani traveling to Hilo to meet the Vikings.
The Trojans advanced to the state tournament for the 12th straight year. That’s the longest current streak ahead of Punahou and Kapolei, which are in the tournament for the 11th consecutive season.
The second round of the tournament is Thursday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park with the semifinals on Feb. 8 and the championship on Feb. 9.
Defending champion Kamehameha-Hawaii is the top seed for the Division II tournament, beginning Thursday at Waipio and running through Saturday.
The Big Island has had the top seed for three straight years.
ILH champion Saint Louis is the second seed, followed by OIA champion Kalaheo and MIL champion Kapaa. The other schools in the field are Waialua, Seabury Hall, Waipahu and Makua Lani.

Sacred Hearts 1, Leilehua 0, OT
Christiann Arakawa scored in the 83rd minute and the Lancers ousted the Mules.
Sacred Hearts moves on to play top-seeded Kamehameha-Hawaii today at 3 p.m. on field 6 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
Kapaa 3, Seabury Hall 2
Dina Hayes scored twice and Maya Loughead added another goal as the Warriors beat the Spartans to avenge a loss in last year’s state semifinals.
Madelyn Dougherty scored the first goal for Seabury Hall 28 minutes into the game, but Kapaa scored three goals before Seabury Hall’s Meika Dunnill made it close in the 71st minute.
Kapaa plays OIA champion Kalaheo today.
Makua Lani 1, Waianae 0, OT
Tia Lurbieki broke a scoreless tie in the 85th minute to lead the Lions over the Seariders.
Makua Lani, which advanced to the quarterfinals for the fourth straight year, will play KIF champion Kauai.
Hawaii Prep 8, Waialua 0
Bella Police had a hat trick and Ka Makani overwhelmed the Bulldogs for their 17th straight state tournament victory.
Emi Higgins had two goals and Alianna West, Malia Brost and Riley Sohriakoff each scored one for defending state champion Hawaii Prep, which meets ILH champion Pac-Five today.
It was the third time in state tournament history Hawaii Prep has scored eight or more goals in a state match, no other school has done it more times. Kauai, Mililani and Kamehameha have each done it twice.
