I just returned from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Hawaii officials should visit Cabo and learn a lesson on tourism and economic development.
Cabo’s harbor is an outstanding example of harbor use for maritime recreation and tourism. Ala Wai harbor has the same potential, instead of being an international boating embarrassment.
I spent 70 days a year for 20 years in Hawaii and Ala Wai for consulting and required sea-service duty.
Ala Wai is one of the worst-maintained and undeveloped marinas anywhere. Hawaii can do better. Shame, shame.
