Honolulu’s Taimane, known for her theatrical flair with the ukulele, will appear at the 2019 South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, to be held March 11 to 17. She is the sole musician from Hawaii accepted as a showcasing artist this year, joining more than 2,000 musical artists from around the world.
“It’s a great way to start the new year,” Taimane said. “I’m ready to represent Hawaii.”
Musicians from Hawaii who have been showcased at SXSW include Makana, Jake Shimabukuro, Anuhea and The Green.
SXSW includes conference programming and showcases for technology and gaming, film and music, and draws international registrants who network, pitch projects, and learn what’s new. A full lineup is available at sxsw.com.
On March 7, Taimane headlines “Fuego,” a fundraising concert to launch her Texas appearance, at the Cupola Theatre inside the Honolulu Design Center. Tickets, $50, will be available at eventbrite.com.
