A bye week did nothing to affect Hawaii’s record, but it did affect the Rainbow Warriors’ ranking in Monday’s national men’s volleyball poll.
Hawaii (3-0) moved up a spot to No. 2 in the AVCA Coaches Division I-II Top 15, trading places with UC Irvine (6-1). It is the Warriors’ highest ranking since also being at No. 2 for two weeks last season — Feb. 26 and March 5.
Staying as the unanimous No. 1 was Long Beach State (6-0), the defending NCAA champion, which received all 16 first-place votes. Brigham Young (4-0) stayed at No. 4, followed by Loyola-Chicago (5-1), Pepperdine (5-1) and UCLA (5-2).
Stanford (5-1), Hawaii’s next opponent, dropped a spot to No. 8 after losing its first match of the year last Saturday to UC Irvine. The Cardinal split their matches with the Anteaters, handing UCI its first loss on Friday.
The Warriors host the Cardinal on Feb. 1 and 3 at the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawaii kicks off its alumni weekend on Friday with a 7 p.m. match against former Warriors players.
