The broadcaster KHON announced Wednesday that a new station — branded with the call letters KHII — will take over channels 5 and 1005, previously used by KFVE.
The change will happen on Jan. 28 with a new lineup of TV programs, including new time slots for local news.
The owner of KHON, Texas-based Nexstar Media Group Inc., in November acquired the broadcast license for KFVE formerly held by a firm affiliated with New York-based investment firm PennantPark. The purchase price was $6.5 million, according to a filing with the Federal Communications Commission.
KHON said Nexstar obtained KFVE’s affiliation with the MyNetwork and will air syndicated shows including “Divorce Court,” “Judge Faith,” “Access Hollywood” and “The Doctors” on KHII.
New local newscasts are scheduled to run on KHII at 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in addition to simulcasts of KHON’s current delivery of news. A one-hour 7 p.m. newscast featuring Marisa Yamane and Brigette Namata is scheduled to begin Jan. 28. The other two KHII newscasts are scheduled to begin Feb. 4.
KHON, which said it is expanding its staff to operate KHII, also plans to schedule several new locally produced shows for KHII while also airing existing local programs found on KHON and its CW network sister station.
