The Pali Highway townbound lanes have been closed five nights a week now for more than eight months. One might expect that this inconvenience would have led to this god-awful road being repaved. It was supposed to be repaved years ago but instead was partially patched.
Over the last eight months, it has just gotten worse and is horrible both for automobiles and their occupants. Buses are shaken to pieces, as are their passengers.
What is being done instead is to add a concrete border wall between the two sides of the highway. Why a permanent wall? Movable sections could be installed faster, be moved in the case of emergencies, and would not cost a fortune to remove in the future.
Use the concrete to repave the highway. Asphalt will be in the same terrible condition after another five years. The condition of this road is a travesty. We are so shortchanged by our government.
