The joys and accomplishments of a person’s life and the sharing of those times with one’s family is one of the greatest joys of our finite existence.
For many, however, our aged bodies bring us pain and depression at the end of our lives. I have felt helpless as I watched my loved ones experience intense pain and bloated bodies, and heard their pleas to fall asleep and not wake up.
Hospice workers are special people who ease this experience, but one must still wait for our bodies to totally shut down to end the suffering.
I salute all those who worked to enact a medical-aid-in-dying law and encourage hospitals, doctors and pharmacies to follow the law and not be obstructionists for those who choose to use the provisions of the law to mercifully end their suffering when they have less than six months to live.
