Volunteers formed a line, passing debris to clear a site near the Ulupo Heiau on Saturday.
To kick off the new year, members of 60-plus families volunteered on Saturday to help restore the historical Ulupo Heiau on the edge of Kawainui Marsh. The cleanup was led by Windward YMCA, Hika‘alani and other volunteers. For the past two years, the community groups have been bringing adults, teens and youth volunteers to the site to learn about and work on the stewardship of the heiau and surrounding Kawainui fishpond.
