SATURDAY
>> Lynn leads evening of vocal treats
What do you do when your one-night Christmas show sells out? For Shari Lynn the answer is simple: Do a second! And so Lynn returns Saturday for a performance by “Shari Lynn and Friends” at Medici’s Supper Club in Manoa. Lynn is one of Hawaii’s foremost stage actors and jazz singers; longtime island residents remember her as a member of the Jive Sisters, leaders of a pop musical revival that reintroduced the three-part harmonies of the Andrews Sisters to the local music scene.
SHARI LYNN
>> Where: Medici’s, Manoa Market Place
>> When: 6:30 p.m. Saturday
>> Cost: $75, includes buffet and Champagne toast
>> Info: 351-0901, honolulumusicatmedicis.com
The four friends who are returning with her collectively deserve the accolade “all-star group”: Buz Tennent and Kip Wilborn, with both opera and musical performances on their lengthy resumes; Annie Renick, another founding member of Jive Sisters; and keyboardist/raconteur Don Conover, who also has earned a strong following here.
Lynn says they were brought together by music and theater and “stayed friends and colleagues by choice because of the joy and inspiration we receive from each other.”
Expect everything from traditional carols to parodies, and what Lynn describes as “serious four-part parodies.” “Rehearsals can be a tedious thing, but not with this bunch!” she said emphatically. “If the audience laughs half as much as we’ve been doing (in rehearsals) the show will be a hit. And the singing is pretty good too!”
