Italian luxury retailer Bottega Veneta was closed Monday at Ala Moana Center after a fire caused nearly $6 million in damage.
A metal barricade was placed at the entrance of the store with windows completely covered with white cloth as restoration workers walked in and out of the second-level shop. A manager declined to talk about the damage or say when the store would reopen. A regional manager didn’t return calls for comment.
“Please pardon any inconvenience that may have been caused to you,” a note on the window read. “We have had a situation that has required the closure of our boutique until further notice.”
Smoke and residue from
a fire extinguisher caused
an estimated $5.7 million
in damage to goods and
$2,000 to the structure.
The fire, caused Friday by a malfunctioning fluorescent light, started in a stock room, according to the
Honolulu Fire Department.
The brand sells luxury handbags for thousands
of dollars, including one crocodile leather bag for $24,300, according to its website.
