Thanks to U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for answering fire with fire (“Gabbard blasts Trump in tweet,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 22).

Donald Trump and the Republican Party started this mud-slinging. We all heard U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson call President Barack Obama a liar during Obama’s State of the Union address.

Trump has made fools of us all with his adolescent rhetoric, but much more respectable voices are now turning up the heat. Good. If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but don’t start it and then complain.

In the meantime, the days of decent public exchange are gone.

Man up, folks. It’s a rude world out there and the Christians and Republicans who continue to blindly support this administration must take the blame.
