If you’re looking to get some early holiday shopping done, consider checking out the artwork at the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina’s monthly Art Walk.
A walk-through at last month’s event provided the opportunity to view plentiful works of art, with paintings and photography, printmaking, illustrations and custom surfboard designs by artists including Darby Guerechit, Bree Poort, Steven Kean, Christian Bendo, Nick Kuchar and Lauren Brown.
The monthly event is curated, with a rotation of artists and new artists featured regularly, so there’s a wide representation of mediums and no duplication. There’s also an opportunity to meet and engage with the artists at their booths.

Art Walk is held near the resort’s Serenity Pool and is open to the public.
RESIN ARTIST Bree Poort was on hand at her booth in October. Poort creates unique pieces that focus on a bird’s eye view of the ocean. She grew up watching her mother paint and went on to study at Brigham Young University of Hawaii, majoring in graphic design. She experimented in oils and watercolors with her mother and then began painting with resin during college.
“I use the same materials that are used to make surfboards. I like to capture that 3-D feeling as if you were there,” she said. Poort’s work is inspired by the beautiful shoreline of Oahu’s North Shore.
Steven Kean, an artist working primarily in the woodcut method of relief printmaking, creates artwork that expresses his love for the ocean. He carves into a block of wood, leaving raised areas to receive ink. Then the inked block is printed on paper.
Kean compares the emotions he feels when carving wood to those experienced when riding a wave. He said he finds himself in a calm almost meditative state during the process, especially when driving a gouge through the block.
Christian Bendo, a painter who regularly participates, said both of his parents were artists, so he was inspired to create art from an early age. Bendo starts some of his works with a sketch, then creates a carving and finishes the piece as a painting. The carving allows for interesting texture. He also makes luggage tags, coasters and wooden postcards.
At the October Art Walk, KoHana Rum provided rum tastings and some “Bright and Sunny” cocktails, which were made using KoHana light rum, ginger beer and bitters. Appetizers were served by chefs during the event. Chef Ryo Takatsuka of Noe Restaurant served a whipped ricotta with prosciutto and truffle honey. Chef Garrick Mendoza of Mina’s Fish House served lobster corn dogs, And Chef Jenny Kim of La Hiki made a balsamic poached strawberry and housemade ricotta toast.
“Art Walk is a unique venue to view a diverse collection of art, meet the artists and most importantly, cultivate Oahu’s thriving art scene – specifically on the west side,” said Four Seasons general manager Charlie Parker.
Another opportunity to get some shopping done is the “Moonlight Market: Shopping & Sips under the Stars,” from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 24 on the Ocean Lawn. An array of artists and exhibitors will showcase paintings, jewelry, clothing, home decor and children’s apparel. Musical entertainment, kids ‘fun zone’ stations and culinary offerings are among the highlights. Continuing events at the Four Seasons are posted on eventbrite.com.
Complimentary valet parking is provided at the Four Seasons for its arts events.
