The moment for which local Bruno Mars fans lined up and camped and waited (and waited and waited) is nigh. Now the real planning begins.
Officials at Aloha Stadium, where the Hawaii-bred entertainer will perform a trio of concerts this week, are encouraging fans to plan ahead to get the most of the concert experience.
Getting there
With some 36,000 concertgoers expected to converge on the stadium on each night of Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, traffic in the area will be heavy.
On-site parking — cash only — is $16 for cars and $31 for buses and limousines and is expected to sell out quickly. Only vehicles whose occupants have concert tickets will be allowed in. A limited number of ADA stalls will be available in parking sections 2-A and B, 3B, 6-A and 13-A; free parking for electric vehicles is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parking gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Live traffic and parking updates will be posted on Facebook (@AlohaStadiumHawaii) and Twitter (@AlohaStadiumHI).
A drop-off and pickup area is available along Kaimakani Street, next to Aiea Elementary School. Users may take the adjacent pedestrian bridge to reach the stadium.
Several alternative parking sites are also available, some with shuttle service, almost all for a fee. (See map for details.)
In addition, Roberts Hawaii is offering shuttle service to and from the stadium for $15. Pickups are available at the Ala Moana Hotel, Kahala Mall (near Bank of Hawaii), Kailua Recreation Center, Windward Mall (Alaloa Street above Sears) and the Mililani Mauka Park ’n’ Ride (Saturday and Sunday only). Pickups are at 5 p.m. except at Windward Mall (5:20 p.m.).
Getting in
All ticket holders will be screened at the turnstile gates prior to entering. This screening will include a bag check and metal detectors. Turnstile gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Each person is allowed one bag not larger than 1 foot by 6 inches by 1 foot. In addition, each person may hand-carry a blanket, poncho or jacket and a soft-sided seat cushion. Medically necessary items will also be allowed upon inspection. Strollers are allowed if they are collapsible and can be safely stored underneath the ticket holder’s seat.
Banners and signs are allowed as long as they are made of paper or soft fabric that can be rolled. They cannot be hung and cannot obstruct the view of other audience members.
The list of prohibited items includes weapons, noisemakers, illegal drugs, cans and bottles, umbrellas, coolers, fireworks, outside food and drink, inflatables, confetti, balloons, lasers, poles and sticks, skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, animals (except ADA-compliant service animals), drones and other motorized remote-control devices, and any items that might pose a health or safety hazard.
Professional recording devices, iPads, Go Pro devices and cameras with detachable lenses are prohibited.
Snack lei are allowed but must be pre-made with each item no larger than 4 by 4 by 2 inches (no liquids).
Audience members with field tickets must wear field-access wristbands.
Getting along
Stadium officials are reminding fans that anyone who violates the stadium’s guest code of conduct (808ne.ws/2JIqwKZ) may be subject to ejection, arrest and/or loss of future ticket privileges.
Attendees are advised to report anyone who is disruptive or who violates the code of conduct to the nearest usher or security person. To report an incident discreetly during the event, text a message to the security office (78247) using the keyword ALOHA or call the Stadium Security Hotline at 483-2807.
Smoking, including use of vapor and electronic cigarette devices, is allowed only in designated smoking areas.
