Samuel James Campiformio, 41, was charged Saturday with second-degree murder. His bail is $500,000. He was expected make his first court appearance on the charge this morning.
Police said officers found the body of a 23-year-old man in the container at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. They said positive identification of the victim is pending.
Honolulu Police Department Homicide Lt. Deena Thoemmes said the victim was Campiformio’s tenant.
According to Honolulu property tax records, Campiformio is the owner of a 2-acre agricultural lot along Ahaolelo Road. Police arrested him at HPD headquarters four hours after officers discovered the body.
Thoemmes said patrol officers went to the Ahaolelo property on a 911 call of a suspicious commotion in the area. The officers found the body in the container and noted it had suspicious injuries to the torso.
Campiformio was charged with misdemeanor assault in 2016. He pleaded no contest in July 2017 and was granted a one-year
deferral.
