Midterm election polls show the U.S. population is not much concerned with foreign policy.
Maybe the polls don’t ask the right question. What makes us proud to be American? As an older adult, I grew up feeling like Americans led the world standing for justice and human rights around the world.
It is stunning to learn the importance of the words of our president. We have a president declaring himself a nationalist while withdrawing from treaties and alliances that have been bought with American blood and have helped to guide the world toward peace. How do we put arms deals above human rights?
Russian President Vladimir Putin said the U.S. no longer is the leader of the world, and basically President Donald Trump listens to his advice. The U.S. response is to send the national security adviser to Moscow to kowtow and minimize the cyberattacks on our elections, an operation that is going full steam ahead.
All we can do is chop wood, carry water and vote.
