The Hawaii County Fire Department said a collision was reported at 3:44 p.m. Saturday between mile markers 16 and 17 on Highway 190. It involved a passenger vehicle, pickup truck and tanker truck containing 2,400 gallons of propane.
According to HFD, the driver of the passenger vehicle was pinned inside and had to be extricated by firefighters with rescue tools before being transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital. Propane from the damaged tanker was transferred to a second truck without incident.
HFD said the crash was weather- related, although no further details were immediately available.
Streetlight upgrades to bring traffic delays
Hawaii island motorists should expect delays this week as county workers upgrade the streetlights on Pahoa Village Road.
County crews are scheduled to do the work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. today until Friday, weather permitting.
Personnel will assist with traffic movement during intermittent lane closures between Kahakai Boulevard and Pahoa High School.
Traffic will flow in both directions through the work area.
